Roy Edward Childs

July 3, 1935 ~ March 11, 2018 (age 82)

On July 3, 1935 Roy Edward Childs was born to his parents, R.E. and Adeline Childs in St. Charles, Arkansas.  He and his siblings were raised in a loving Christian home.  Roy was affectionately known as “Tunie” to many that loved him.

After graduating from high school Roy joined the United States Air Force at Greenville Base in Greenville, MS. While serving the country he received distinguished awards-Good Conduct Medal and National Defense Service Medal. He received an honorable discharged after serving his country for over 4 years. Roy also was a truck driver for the ABF Trucking Company and later became a teamster union member.

He was married to his lovely wife, Sonja Louise Childs, for 43 years and for several years they were entrepreneurs and owners of a cleaning service.  Roy was outgoing, passionate about others and loved his family.  He attended most family reunions regardless of the distance.  He enjoyed meeting people and sharing childhood stories.  His greatest joy was spending time with his children and grandchildren.  He did not mind traveling to visit them.  In his leisure time, he was an avid fisherman.

Roy’s parents, R.E. and Adeline preceded him in death.  Also, his children, Saundra Childs, Marilyn Childs Hobson, Roy Childs, Jr., Dennis Childs and one grandson, DeShaun Gaither.

On March 11, 2018 Roy transitioned  peacefully from Earth to Eternity at home in Denver, Colorado.  Those who yet remain and will lovingly remember him are his wife, Sonja Childs of Denver, Colorado,: Rosalyn Childs Sylvester (Ed) of Jackson, Mississippi; Derrick Childs, Danny Childs,  of Dewitt, Arkansas; Annette Childs of Salt Lake City, Utah; Lucy Childs of Pocatello, Idaho;  Vicky Lindsey (Kenneth) of Florida; Charles (Sam) Christian( Lesley) of Denver, Colorado; David Childs and Danny Childs of Atlanta, Georgia; one brother, Jimmie Childs of Chicago, Illinois; his sisters, Lola Wellington of Chicago, Illinois; Joyce Chambers (Charles) of Dewitt, Arkansas and many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
