Betty Austin

October 27, 1945 ~ August 19, 2018 (age 72)

Mrs. Betty Austin 72, of Stuttgart, Arkansas passed away on Sunday, August 19, 2018. 

Mrs. Betty J. Gaither Austin was born October 27, 1945 to the late Reverend Thomas Issac “T.I.” and Sarah Chambers Gaither in Crocketts Bluff, Arkansas.

She accepted Christ at an early age and was united with St. Olive Baptist Church, Dewitt, Arkansas under leadership of Reverend W.W. Walker.

Sister Betty was a graduate of Immanuel High School in Almyra, AR. Following high school, she attended Arkansas Baptist College and where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education.

On December 4, 1970  she united in holy matrimony to Norman Austin.

Sister Betty was a devoted wife and mother. She loved her family dearly and was an inspiration to her family and all the people that knew her.  She was a faithful member and devoted worker in the churches she served.

In later years, she united with Allen Temple Missionary Baptist  Church. Here she has served as an Usher for thirty-one faithful years. Sister Betty faithfully served at the clothing house for more than twenty years and she loved it passionately. Sister Betty remained active in these roles until her health failed.

Sister Betty was a former employee of the Arkansas Health Department as a        Certified Nursing Assistant for more than fifteen years. In 1984, she passionately begin her education career as a teacher. She taught school for the Stuttgart School District for thirty-one years at Gingrich Elementary and Park Avenue Elementary Schools. After many years of faithful  employment, Sister Betty retired from the Stuttgart School District 2015.

She was a woman of noble character, an entrepreneur at heart, strong-willed, and independent and unafraid of any challenges until her departure from this life.

She was preceded in death by sisters Mae Lene King, Ersalene Hodge, Hazel Callahan and Rosezine Brown.

She leaves to cherish her loving and beautiful memory, her husband, Norman, two sons: Rodney (Teann) Gaither and William Austin both of Stuttgart, Arkansas; one brother, Earnett “TC” (Karen) Gaither of Stuttgart, Arkansas; two sisters: Mrs. Katherine Stigger of Stuttgart, Arkansas and Dessie Moore of Kansas City, Missouri; two grandchildren: Tiffany Austin and Rodney Gaither, Jr. both of Stuttgart and a host of loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and great friends.
